Reports out of France and Germany indicate that in addition to the all-new A8 and A5 Sportback, Audi plans to reveal two versions of the R8 at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.

Both Auto Motor und Sport and L'Automobile report that Audi will finally reveal the R8 Spyder at the IAA expo, with the French pub saying the drop-top supercar will be available with either the standard 420 hp, 4.2-liter V8 or the newly released 525 hp, 5.2-liter V10, allowing Audi to compete directly with the 911 4S, Turbo and convertible models.

However, the big news is the rumored reveal of an electric version of the R8. Details are scarce, so it's unclear if the R8 concept will be a pure EV, a diesel/gasoline-electric hybrid, a limited production model or, more likely, just an indication that Audi is looking at future powertrains. Regardless, we'll be on the floor in Frankfurt to bring you both the reveals if/when they happen.

With its innovative Twindoor system, Skoda's flagship Superb already blurs the fine line between sedan, hatchback and wagon. But those crazy Europeans love their wagons, or "estates" as they call 'em over there, and VW's Czech subsidiary wants its slice of the action. So, after releasing the Superb sedan/hatch/whatsit in Geneva last year, Skoda is preparing to unveil a proper extended-roof wagon at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.

Like the Twindoor, the Superb Kombi is expected to offer a range of six engines – three gas and three diesels – mated to either a six-speed manual or DSG dual-clutch tranny, but may also get the addition of available all-wheel-drive as well. All Skoda has released at the moment is the teaser image you see above along with a short statement, so if you're as nuts as we are about Eastern European station wagons, you'll want to Czech 'em out after the jump.

Frankfurt leakage: Fiat tweaking 500 to create the 695 Tributo Ferrari

If the 500 Abarth isn't a hot enough hatch for your tastes, Fiat is about to add some Ferrari-flavored habenero to the mix. AutoExpress released (then retracted) pics and details of the 695 Tributo Ferrari ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and according to the Brit pub, the crew at Abarth have cranked the 1.4-liter turbo from the usual 135 horsepower to over 180 ponies and added paddle shifters to the six-speed gearbox to give drivers a bit more of that Ferrari feeling.

Just like its Maranello inspiration, the body shell is finished in Scuderia Red and a set of Brembo brake calipers squeeze cross-drilled rotors beneath a gorgeous set of spidery alloys. Additionally, Ferrari was reportedly tapped to re-tune the suspension to help keep things under control. No word on how many of these beasties will get built, but they should be a hoot if they make it to dealers.

Frankfurt Preview: In lieu of warp drive, Brabus drops 750 HP under SV12 R's hood

When Brabus one day announces that they've developed a G-Wagen that can simply teleport from place to place, we won't be the least bit surprised. After all, getting there faster is the company's mission, and the Mercedes-Benzes it works its black magic on are certainly capable of that. Take, for instance, the latest ride to emerge from the skunkworks in Bottrop: the S600-based SV12 R.

The Brabus SV12 R is a car for drivers who feel that the 612-horsepower S65 AMG is lacking underhood. Fret-not, deep-pocketed speed freaks: Brabus has your back. The SV12 R features a 6.3-liter twin-turbo V12 that shovels out 750 horses and a completely insane 995 lb-ft of torque. How do we know it's insane? Because the Brabus folks – who aren't exactly shrinking violets when it comes to the gonzo power numbers – electronically cap it at 811 lb-ft to protect the transmission. (Somewhere in Germany, there must be a shady character named Klaus with a flash tuner doing back-alley torque liberations.) Regardless, that much twist going to the rear wheels ought to put you on a first-name basis with your local tire retailer, as you're likely to be in there every 45 minutes or so for new rubber. Brabus says that zero to 60 takes just four seconds, and that the SV12 R's top speed is an electronically-limited 211 mph.

What else? The de rigeur aero kit is in play, as are a variety of wheel designs for maximum curb appeal. Inside, the car can be outfitted with "BRABUS Yachting precious-wood" accents and a fully-equipped backseat office, allowing you to finalize that corporate takeover PowerPoint deck while your retired DTM-racer chauffeur breaks every traffic law ever written in a bid to get you to your meeting on time. With the business version of the BRABUS SV12 R BRABUS presents the world�s fastest and most powerful luxury sedan. The high-performance automobile reaches a top speed of 340 km/h (211 mph). It is built based on the latest Mercedes S 600 facelift model and is powered by a BRABUS SV12 R Biturbo 750 twelve-cylinder engine with 750 hp (740 bhp) / 552 kW and a peak torque of 1,350 Nm (995 lb-ft).

The BRABUS SV12 R Biturbo 750 engine is a prime example for the old adage that nothing can replace displacement except more displacement. A special crankshaft with longer stroke, forged pistons with a larger diameter and an increased cylinder bore result in a displacement increase from standard 5.5 to now 6.3 liters (336 to 385 cu. in.). In addition the inlet and outlet ports of both cylinder heads are optimized for improved mixture flow. Four special camshafts also contribute to that same effect.

The BRABUS engine specialists further equip the engine with larger turbochargers, a more efficient intercooling system and a stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with four tailpipes and metal catalysts with low back pressure. Newly programmed engine electronics ensure that all new components work together flawlessly. They also contribute to maximum power yield and to meeting current exhaust emission limits.

The rated power output of 750 hp (740 bhp) / 552 kW at 5,500 rpm produced by the BRABUS SV12 R Biturbo 750 engine is as superlative as the peak torque of 1,350 Nm (995 lb-ft) at 2,100 rpm. In the car peak torque is electronically limited to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft).

This extraordinary performance makes the BRABUS SV12 R not just the most powerful but also the fastest luxury sedan in the world: 0 � 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.0 seconds, 200 km/h (124 mph) after just 11.9 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 340 km/h (211 mph).

Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a modified five-speed automatic transmission. An optional BRABUS locking differential optimizes traction. All BRABUS powertrain components are operated exclusively with ARAL high-performance lubricants.

BRABUS also offers performance tuning for the S 600 and S 65 models. The list ranges from the T12 performance kit for 580 hp (572 bhp) / 419 kW to the T 65 S performance tuning that boosts power output of the S 65 model to 715 hp (705 bhp) / 526 kW.

This enormous performance potential of the BRABUS SV12 R places the highest demands on the car�s aerodynamic properties. The aerodynamic-enhancement components for the facelift generation of the Mercedes S-Class were designed from scratch. The BRABUS designers went into the wind tunnel to develop a striking front apron whose sophisticated shape reduces lift on the front axle. The large centrally located air duct optimizes the cooling of engine and front brakes. Integrated auxiliary headlights and LED daytime running lights further improve active safety.

To make the S-Class sedan even more extravagant the BRABUS designers have developed custom-tailored front aluminum sport fenders that replace their production counterparts. The exclusive appearance is characterized by an air vent made from clear-coated carbon and a horizontal brace that spans the outlet with embossed BRABUS signet and integrated LED lights. The latter are activated just like the ones in the BRABUS rocker panels via the keyless remote or by pulling on a door handle.

For optimizing the airflow around the sides of the vehicle the designers shaped BRABUS rocker panels that feature integrated entrance lights for added utility. They are activated by the keyless remote or by pulling on a door handle as are the blue-illuminated BRABUS logos integrated into the scuff plates on both sides of the vehicle.

The BRABUS aerodynamic-enhancement concept is rounded out by the BRABUS rear spoiler lip and the new rear apron for the facelift-generation of the S-Class. The latter features a centrally located reflector and custom cutouts for the BRABUS quad sport exhaust system. The underside of the rear apron also features integrated LED lights which illuminate the ground behind the vehicle. They help avoid any unfortunate missteps into puddles of potholes lurking in the dark.

The enormous performance of the BRABUS SV12 R is kept safely under control with custom-tailored solutions for tires, brakes and suspension. They include BRABUS Monoblock light-alloy wheels with diameters ranging from 17 to 21 inches.

The largest version features size 9Jx21 wheels on the front axle and size 10.5Jx21 in back. Customers can choose from three different designs: Three-piece forged and high-gloss polished BRABUS Monoblock VI wheels with six double spokes, Monoblock E multi-spoke wheels and the especially exclusive Monoblock F PLATINUM EDITION forged wheels with cross-spoke design. All versions are fitted with Pirelli or YOKOHAMA tires in size 265/30 ZR 21 in front and in size 295/30 ZR 21 on the rear axle.

For all S 350, S 500 and S 350 CDI models with short wheelbase BRABUS also certified Monoblock VI, E, G, Q and S wheels in size 10Jx22 with high-performance tires in size 275/25 ZR 22 in front combined with size 295/25 ZR 22 tires on the rear axle. Thanks to a tire design specifically calibrated for luxury sedans and high-performance coupes the new BRABUS tire/wheel combination offers sporty and agile handling combined with excellent ride comfort.

The large wheels also create the necessary space for installing the BRABUS high-performance brake system with 12-piston aluminum fixed calipers and 380 x 36-mm (15.0 x 1.42 inches) vented and cross-drilled discs in front, and 355 x 28-mm (14.0 x 1.1 inches) discs and six-piston aluminum fixed calipers on the rear axle.

The finest entertainment and communication technologies on board a luxury sedan capable of reaching 340 km/h (211 mph): BRABUS has developed a business concept for the Mercedes S-Class that combines exclusivity, state-of-the-art technology and meticulous craftsmanship at the highest level of perfection.

At the heart of the system is an ultra-slim 3-GHz notebook computer housed safely in a docking station inside an electrically deployed drawer in the trunk, underneath the rear shelf. The tablet PC notebook can be easily removed for use outside the vehicle.

The entire BRABUS business concept equipment is operated via a second COMAND controller conveniently placed in a special console integrated into the rear compartment. This ensures that the user of the PC system has no problems operating the system if and when he or she moves from the driver�s seat to the power rear seats or vice versa. The console in the rear also houses a color printer.

A 15.2-inch 16:9 TFT screen serves as computer monitor. It is integrated into the supple leather of the headliner and deploys and retracts at the push of a button. The BRABUS computer is connected to the internet via UMTS. Two USB 2.0 ports integrated into the rear compartment allow connecting various peripherals such as a webcam for video conferencing or a digital camera. The printer is housed in a custom-developed console located between the rear seats.

To display the images from digital TV, DVD, Blu-Ray disc or game console the BRABUS interior specialists have developed an interface that transmits the signals to the extendable screen in the roof and to the standard screens in the back of the front headrests. Also available for the S-Class are special BRABUS seat consoles with integrated tables that deploy at the push of a button. The table tops are bordered by elegant aluminum frames and are available in the same wood grains as the factory trim options of the S-Class or in custom BRABUS veneers or even covered with leather. The angle of the table top is infinitely adjustable and the tables offer ample space for perusing documents or for the wireless keyboard of the BRABUS computer system.

The computer�s integrated MP3 player can store more than 5,000 songs. The sound is carried by Sennheiser Noise Gard headphones that filter out unwanted noises for unparalleled listening enjoyment.

Maximum individuality and comfort in the interior is another specialty of the BRABUS interior designers. That includes electric curtains that provide the rear passengers with privacy. But that�s not all: The list of options ranges from scuff plates with illuminated BRABUS logo to ergonomically shaped sport steering wheels to stainless-steel pedals.

Especially exclusive is the newly created BRABUS Yachting precious-wood combination of maple and tropical Wenge wood, which lends the luxury sedan a maritime ambiance. In traditional craftsmanship hundreds of individual pieces are used to recreate every piece of wood trim in the S-Class in the style of a miniature ship veneer. The combination of maple and Wenge woods features traditional open pores but is sealed according to the latest automotive guidelines.

As a stylish and perfectly crafted complement the company upholstery shop created an elegant fully leather interior in a combination of light-beige and dark-brown leather that is especially soft, breathable and extremely durable.

As with Rolls-Royce and its Bespoke Collection, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Bentley will be introducing its Continental Series 51 cars for the GT and GTC. These will be a cadre of models further tailored by Crewe's designers. Each car "will feature a highly distinctive interior color palette and unique exterior design cues." The first car to show off the line wears an interior in Imperial Blue, Linen, and Newmarket Tan, with color-matched floor mats with contrasting stitching.

NEW SERIES 51 BENTLEY CONTINENTAL RANGE TO DEBUT AT FRANKFURT SHOW

(10 September, 2009. Crewe, England) -- Bentley Motors will preview an exciting new design direction for the company's Continental GT and GTC models at the 2009 Frankfurt Show. The Series 51 Continental models represent Bentley exterior and interior styling at its most vibrant and will enable customers to order 'off the peg' from an exclusive range created by Dirk van Braeckel's renowned team of Crewe-based designers.

Series 51 is named after the year that the first official styling department was established in Crewe by the gifted John Blatchley, who shaped the original and iconic 1950s Bentley Continentals. Every Series 51 car will feature a highly-distinctive interior colour palette and unique exterior design cues.

Bentley's Colour and Trim team, managed by Melinda - June Jenkins, have designed some bespoke three-tone interiors which demonstrate the full potential of leather hide colours and showcase the creative application of contrast stitching and piping. The first example of their work will be the Continental GTC displayed at Frankfurt which features Imperial Blue as a main and secondary hide, Linen seat and door inserts and Newmarket Tan as the accent colour.

Series 51 cars will also feature several unique interior details including the use of non-indented hide for diamond quilting, contrast piping for the seats and doors as well as bespoke Series 51 treadplates.

Bentley's designers have also selected a range of premium-quality materials for the dashboard and centre console to complement the three-tone interiors. The Dark and Bright 'Engine Spin' aluminium options provide a striking contrast with darker and lighter hide colour choices and a special, limited-edition Amboyna veneer reserved for Series 51.

A belief that even the smallest detail presents an opportunity to delight and surprise customers has always be a key element of the Bentley design story. Series 51 follows this principle, where even the overmats and boot carpets are now colour matched and given contrast binding.

Both the Continental GT and GTC offer a powerful road presence and the Series 51 cars further accentuate these sporting credentials with some eye-catching exterior styling. A 20" 14-spoke polished Diamond wheel with a dark centre cap provides Series 51 cars with a purposeful and stylish appearance. The cars will be further distinguished by a signature '51' badge on the front wings.

To further enhance and personalise the Continental GT a new two-tone paint can be commissioned which complements the contrasting interior configuration. This highly distinctive colour split (with one colour running over the bonnet, roof and flowing down to the boot) is a classic design used on many sporting Bentleys of the past.

The Tenure of John Blatchley

John Blatchley's gift for design was recognised from the very outset of his career. Just a few years after graduating from the Regent Street Polytechnic, and still only in his early twenties, Blatchley was heading the styling team at the renowned London coachbuilder Gurney Nutting. His striking and often flamboyant work for Gurney Nutting's customers would in turn see him recruited by Rolls-Royce and Bentley.

Blatchley quickly established himself at Crewe and was renowned for the quality and realism of his water colour renderings, line drawings and wax models. His reputation for being able to turn his hand to any complex or bespoke design task was well-founded - he created a royal crest for Princess Margaret's car over the course of just one weekend.

During an 18-year period as the company's Chief Stylist, Blatchley would design some of Bentley's most iconic post-war models including the MK6, R-type Continental, the S-series and T Series – cars renowned for effortlessly blending the sporting and prestige styling cues associated with the Bentley marque.

Today the Bentley Design team, led by Dirk van Braeckel, continues to use original hand sketches to shape a new generation of Crewe-built cars like the new Mulsanne and Continental Supersports and John Blatchley's original design language is still a source of much inspiration. The almost unlimited palette of interior and exterior colours sourced and created by the Colour and Trim department ensures that every Bentley customer has the ability to create a bespoke design.

Wiesmann's made an all-out drop-top assault in 2009, beginning with the 367-hp V8-powered MF4 Roadster unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March. As reported earlier, the retrotastic automaker hailing from Dulmen, Germany is bringing another open-aired creation to the Frankfurt Motor Show, and it's finally released a teaser shot to whet our appetites ahead of the big day.
Powered by the BMW M5/M6-derived V10, Weismann says the 507-hp MF5 Roadster hits the magic 60 MPH mark in 3.9 seconds – the same as its fixed roof sibling – and can blast to a top speed of 192 mph.
Aside from the cloth roof, the body remains unchanged and all the standard equipment carries over to the Roadster, including the dual airbags, ABS and stability control. Pricing is expected to crest the $250,000 mark, but with Weismann only planning to produce 55 examples, we have little doubt they'll find their way into enthusiastic collector's garages. IAA 2009: First view of the Wiesmann Roadster MF5
